NESTON CRICKET
Top competitive league cricket has been played on one of the best playing arenas in the North West for over 100 years, here at Parkgate on the wirral.
During this time, the club has hosted many top flight games, including County teams, Minor Counties, representative matches and even the England Ladies cricket team! We have two very good wickets with a fantastic view from the balcony of the new clubhouse, looking towards the welsh hills with parkgate in the foreground. It is possibly one of the best settings for cricket in cheshire. |
Neston CC has produced many players who have gone on to win top honours in the game, the most famous being Ken Cranston. Ken played for and captained Lancashire and England in 1947/8 against the all conquering Australians. As well as host of Cheshire age group games we also provide players from Under 11 to Over 60!
The club runs four senior men's teams on a Saturday, a Sunday Academy League as well as friendly teams and junior sides from Under 9 to Under 17! The junior section is particularly strong with many qualified coaches. Strong emphasis is put on junior enjoyment and development. |

A Brief History of Cricket at Neston.
The first recorded game of cricket in Parkgate was in 1881 and then at it's present ground from 1895.
Neston had two sides from 1900 and they played in the Liverpool and District Competition from 1908 which was not formally put into a league structure until 1949, when Neston was one of the original 16 clubs from the Liverpool, Wirral and Lancashire areas. We have won it 5 times which is quite a feat as some clubs have never won it! We moved to the newly formed Cheshire League for the 1999 season, which made geographical sense as many clubs on the Wirral and Cheshire made up the Liverpool League. We were runners-Up in 2013, which is the best we have achieved since joining in 1999.
